In March 2026, the FDA issued draft guidance to help developers validate NAMs — including organoids, spheroids, and organs-on-chips — for use in regulatory submissions, and on 20 April 2026 published a one-year progress report, “Reducing Animal Testing in Nonclinical Studies: Year One Progress and the Path Forward.” The roadmap targets making animal testing “the exception rather than the norm” in preclinical safety testing within three to five years.

Corning continues to expand its 3D portfolio around Elplasia microcavity plates and Matrigel matrix for organoid culture, adding higher-density formats in 2026. In November 2025, InSphero acquired DOPPL SA along with Sun Bioscience’s Gri3D organoid platform, consolidating scalable spheroid and organoid technologies under one portfolio.
Nano3D Biosciences, Inc. (n3D), founded in 2008 in Houston, Texas, developed magnetic 3D bioprinting technology. It was acquired by Greiner Bio-One International on 8 May 2018 and its platform is now marketed through Greiner’s global bioscience channels for biomedical research, drug discovery, precision medicine, assay development, and oncology and toxicity screening.
